This is a recipe for "Mississippi Style" fried
green tomatoes which were supposed to be a
favorite of Elvis Presley's, served along with
squirrel hunted by his father and which were
supposedly used by the famous Whistle Stop Cafe
in the movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes".
Hints on preparing fried green tomatoes
1) To keep the cooked tomatoes from
getting soggy before
they are served, stand them on edge in the serving dish
instead of stacking them.
2) Don't crowd the slices when frying,
keep them in a single
layer with lots of space between the slices.
3) Keep the fat or oil the slices are
fried in hot at all
times to prevent the tomatoes from absorbing the
fat.

in a large heavy skillet until browned on both
