SPICY FAIRY STARS

You will need:
1 cup of plain flour
2/3 cup of butter
2/3 cup of brown sugar
1 small egg - beaten
2 teaspoons of mixed spice

For the icing:
2/3 cup of icing sugar
1-2 tablespoons of hot water
Food coloring (your choice)
 

  • Mix up the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly beat in the egg a little at a time Sieve the flour, salt and spice. Mix this with the butter, sugar and egg mixture until you have a firm ball of dough
  • Roll out the dough using a rolling pin until it is 1/2cm thick
  • Cut out star shapes using a star cutter Place the shapes on a greased baking tray and bake in the oven for 15 minutes (375°F) To make the icing, mix together the icing sugar and hot water, then add the food coloring - any color will do but I like red! When the biscuits have cooled, spread the icing on each one For that extra fairy touch, decorate the biscuits with silver balls (or other confection) but make sure you put the balls in the icing before it sets! Once baked and iced they become spicy fairy stars!
